Welcome to Supported
You've been told a tired old story: that your body is to blame for not getting pregnant. It's time for a new one.
You Are Not Broken and You Do NOT Need Fixing
Maybe it's your doctor. Maybe it's a well-meaning friend or family member. Maybe it's that harsh voice in your head, the one that still wonders if they might be right.
If you've been told…
"Losing weight is your best chance at getting pregnant," or
"Fat bodies aren't safe for pregnancy," or even
"No-one will help you get pregnant at your size"
…you've been misinformed.
💛 Fat folks get pregnant all the time and have done for millennia. It's not your body that's stopping you, it's the systemic barriers and misinformation about fat bodies and fertility.
💛 Moving away from weight loss and focusing on meeting your body's needs can create the sense of safety needed for getting pregnant in a world that feels inherently unsafe for fat folks.
💛 You deserve fertility support designed specifically for fat folks, one that honours your lived experience and understands the unique challenges you face while navigating fertility care.
You don't have to carry any of this alone. You get to be supported through it, exactly as you are.
The truth is:
The Problem Isn't Your Body,
It's Reproductive Fatphobia.
There's a name for what you've been experiencing. I call it Reproductive Fatphobia. And it shows up everywhere.
In the doctor's office, where you're denied tests and treatments until you lose weight, as if your body isn't worthy of care unless it meets a narrow, arbitrary BMI threshold. You leave appointments frustrated, ashamed, and no closer to the support you came for. Meanwhile, time keeps passing.
In the shame you've carried for years, that follows you into every appointment and every conversation, making you feel like you need to earn the right to grow your family. That voice that says "not yet, not until you're smaller, not until you've tried harder."
In the silence, because the world has made you feel that your body is something to be embarrassed about, so you don't tell anyone you want to get pregnant. You don't want to hear "have you tried losing weight?" from someone who's supposed to love you. So you say nothing, and you carry it alone.
In the advice, the endless stream of weight loss tips, restrictive diets, and misinformation that centres your size as the problem rather than addressing what's actually going on in your body. Leaving you frustrated, overwhelmed, and without ever feeling supported.
Reproductive Fatphobia is not your fault. And it is not the whole story.
This is Why Supported Exists
Every part of Reproductive Fatphobia works by making you smaller: smaller in the room, smaller in your own certainty, smaller in what you feel entitled to ask for. Supported works the opposite way.
This isn't a coincidence. It's the design.
💛 Instead of telling you to lose weight, we work together to understand what your body actually needs and how to meet those needs, whether that's investigating a thyroid issue, understanding your cycle, or finally getting the hormone panel nobody's run yet.
💛 Instead of gatekeeping care behind a number on a scale, we build the exact words for your next appointment, so "I'd like to discuss the evidence for that recommendation" is already in your pocket before you walk in.
💛 Instead of invalidating your lived experience and labelling you as "non-compliant", we take what you already know about your own body and turn it into your next step, whether that's a second opinion, a new clinic, or a different test.
💛 Instead of dismissing your mental health as irrelevant, we look at what living in a fatphobic world has cost your mental health, the consultant who talked about your weight before your symptoms, the fertility forums that only talk about diets, the years of feeling like you had to earn the right to even try.
"I'd go into appointments with a plan. We'd create scenarios, like if they bring up weight, here's what you can say. I literally felt like I had the answers before the questions were even asked." — Anon
Supported is six months of expert guidance, practical fat positive fertility support and community, helping you understand your options, advocate for the care you deserve and navigate getting pregnant without making your body the problem.
Meet Nicola.
Why I do this work: every person, regardless of size, is worthy of respectful, evidence-based fertility care. Not once they've lost weight. Not once they're "ready." Now, exactly as they are.
Hi, I'm Nicola Salmon (she/her), an Award-winning , fat positive fertility specialist and author of "Fat and Fertile."
I was 16 when I was diagnosed with PCOS and told I'd never have children. Lose weight, my GP said, that's how you fix it. I believed her for years.
She was wrong. I went on to have two children in my fat body, the first at my highest weight, with a completely unremarkable pregnancy and no fertility treatment needed.
I know what it's like to sit in that waiting room. I've had the appointments where more time went on my weight than my actual symptoms. I've felt that same shame you're carrying, and I've done the work to put it down.
I'm also autistic and ADHD, a knitter of socks, a wild swimmer, and I live in the forest with my husband, two boys and crazy spaniel, Huckleberry. I tell you that because the person supporting you through this should feel like a real human, not just a set of letters after a name.
With a background in medical sciences, I've spent the past 8 years helping over 7000 fat folks navigate fertility care, grounded in peer-reviewed research, not vibes. My article, "How Fat People are Harmed by the Fertility Industry," was published in Excessive Bodies, and in 2024 I won the award for Best Fertility Advocate.
What Supported actually is:
A Weekly Space to Be Held
This is where we gather. Every Wednesday, 5pm UK time, the same room, the same faces, showing up as we actually are.
Not the version of yourself you perform for everyone else. Not the "I'm fine" you give your mother when she asks how it's going. Not the brave face for the group chat.
Here, you get to say the real thing. That your best friend is pregnant again and you are fucking sad about it, and also happy for her, and also so tired of being the one who isn't.
You'll say it, and the room will hold it. No flinching, no fixing, no "well have you tried." Just people who already know exactly what that feels like, because they're carrying versions of the same thing.
Every week, you have somewhere to bring all of it, and every week, someone is there to receive it. That's what being supported actually feels like.
Your Roadmap Session
Before you say hello to anyone else in the group, you and I sit down together. Just the two of us, for ninety minutes.
A conversation, where you get to tell your whole story properly, to someone who's going to listen and remember it. You tell me what's going on, what you've tried, what's worked, what hasn't, what you're scared of, what you're hoping for, and none of it gets lost. None of it gets reduced to a number.
Together, we work out what you need. Not generic advice pulled from a website written for someone else's body. Something built around you, your history, your test results, the specific place you're standing in right now.
By the time you join your first group call, you're not walking in as a stranger hoping to be understood eventually. You're already known and supported. Someone in that room already has the full picture of who you are and what you're carrying, and that changes everything about how it feels to show up.
"It felt like someone was on our side. It was like there was somebody else with us, in the car almost. She'd become part of the team, team get pregnant, and somebody, for the first time, felt that that was possible as well." — Anon
The Fat Positive Fertility Program
Everything I know about navigating fertility in a fat body, without the shame, without the diet talk, without pretending the system isn't broken, is sitting there waiting for you. Videos, frameworks, the exact scripts I'd hand a client mid-appointment, all of it, ready whenever you are.
Some weeks you'll want to work through a module with a cup of tea, take notes, come back to the group with questions. Other weeks you won't have the energy to open your laptop and that's fine too. It's not homework. Nobody's checking if you've done it.
You get to go at your own pace, in your own order, based on what you need right now. Waiting for a test result and need to understand what it might mean? There's something there for that. Bracing for a conversation with a new consultant? There's a script for that too. Struggling with the voice in your head that still wonders if the doctors might be right? That's in there as well.
The course sits underneath everything, so you're never without the information you need, whenever you need to reach for it.
A Place to Land Between Calls
The calls are where the real connection happens. The community space is what sits alongside that. Somewhere quieter.
There's no expectation to post. No pressure to check in, comment on everyone else's updates, or perform being okay, or not okay, for an audience. Some people use it to ask a quick question between calls. Some people share something they're not ready to say out loud yet. Some people barely open it at all, and that's completely fine too.
It's there when you want it.
"I was rooting for others, they were rooting for me, and we were cheerleading each other. I can't feel like they deserve it if I don't deserve it too. I just started to not question it anymore. Like, I get to be in this space. It's fine."

Why six months?
This program starts with six months of commitment, not because you need six months of fixing (you aren't broken). Six months means the group and I are there for the whole unpredictable stretch. The month a test comes back with no answers. The month a friend announces their third. The month everything, for no reason at all, just works. Whatever these six months hold for you, you're held through every bit of it.

Imagine what the world would be like if…
💭 You no longer felt pressured to lose weight before even being considered for basic fertility tests or treatments.
🤎 Instead, your provider focused on understanding your body as it is today and creating a care plan that aligns with your needs.
💭 You were supported by a community of fat folks who shared resources and celebrated each other’s wins.
🤎 A space where you felt seen, valued, and encouraged to move forward without judgment.
💭 You had access to evidence-based fertility guidance that didn’t blame your body size for every challenge.
🤎 Fertility advice would center on actionable, weight-neutral strategies that actually work.
💭 You understood how to advocate for yourself in the face of fatphobia and dismissive attitudes in healthcare.
🤎 You had the tools to push back against weight stigma and demand equitable care.
💭 You found a doctor who listened to your concerns and treated you like a person—not a number on a BMI chart.
🤎 They provided tests and treatments based on your symptoms, not outdated weight-based criteria.
💭 You stopped delaying your fertility journey out of fear that your body wasn’t “good enough.”
🤎 Instead, you felt ready to embrace the process now, exactly as you are.
Supported might be exactly what you’ve been looking for if...
...you're tired of contacting every clinic in a 30 mile area to work out if they'll even run tests
...you want someone on your side, who's already done the research and knows what to say when the doctor dismisses you again, and what receipts will shift the needle
...you want to be in a room with people who get exactly how it feels to get told yet again that weight loss will fix everything
...you're done watching an arbitrary BMI cut-off decide whether you get referred for treatment
A couple of things to know before you join
This is a shared weekly space, the same faces, every Wednesday at 5pm UK time. A room that holds you because you're in it together, live, each week.
It's a six month commitment to start, the group and I are alongside you for the whole unpredictable stretch, the laughter, the tears, all of it.
The course is there whenever you want to learn something specific. The calls are for showing up exactly as you are.
