Welcome to Supported
Years of fat positive fertility expertise. A community that won't ask you to explain yourself. A weekly space held just for you. This is Supported.
First, let me tell you, in case nobody else has:
You Are Not Broken and You Do NOT Need Fixing
I know you’ve been told, over and over, by your doctor, best friend, parents, family members, or even that harsh voice in your head, that it’s your fault you can’t get pregnant.
They’ve said, “If only your body were smaller, things would work out.”
But here’s the truth: It’s not your fault, and your body is not the problem.
In Supported, we reject outdated, harmful narratives about weight and fertility. Together, we’ll embrace an evidence-based, compassionate approach to growing your family in your body, right now. Here’s how we’re different:
💛 Instead of telling you to lose weight, we work together to figure out what your own version of health looks like, and how to move towards it.
💛 Instead of withholding tests and treatments, we learn how to understand what’s going on in our bodies from the tools we’ve got and to advocate with healthcare professionals for the tests and treatments we need.
💛 Instead of invalidating your lived experience and labelling you as “non-compliant”, we work together to honour your lived experience and use that knowledge to inform the decisions you make about your body and your wellbeing.
💛 Instead of dismissing your mental health as irrelevant, we look at how being fat in our society impacts our mental health, taking care to recognise any trauma from previous healthcare interactions. We focus on supporting your mental health throughout, and using your mindset to your advantage.
A New Approach
What Supported is all about:
A Weekly Space to Be Held
This is where we gather. Every Wednesday, 5pm UK time, the same room, the same faces, showing up as we actually are.
Not the version of yourself you perform for everyone else. Not the "I'm fine" you give your mother when she asks how it's going. Not the brave face for the group chat.
Here, you get to say the real thing. That your best friend is pregnant again and you are fucking sad about it, and also happy for her, and also so tired of being the one who isn't. That your mother-in-law won't stop hinting you should come along to Slimming World with her, as if that's the missing piece, as if you haven't already tried every version of that a hundred times over. That some days you resent your own body, even though you know none of this is your fault, and you're allowed to feel all of it without being a terrible human for feeling it.
You'll say it, and the room will hold it. No flinching, no fixing, no "well have you tried." Just people who already know exactly what that feels like, because they're carrying versions of the same thing.
This is where you're not alone with any of it. Not the grief, not the anger, not the exhaustion, not the fragile, stubborn hope that keeps you going anyway. Every week, you have somewhere to bring all of it, and every week, someone is there to receive it.
Your Roadmap Session
Before you say hello to anyone else in the group, you and I sit down together. Just the two of us, for ninety minutes.
Not a form to fill in. Not a triage call where you're rushed through your history so someone can tick a box and move you along. An actual conversation, where you get to tell your whole story once, properly, to someone who's actually going to remember it.
You know that thing where you have to re-explain everything to every new doctor, every new consultant, every nurse who's covering for someone else that day? Where you brace yourself, again, for the moment they glance at your chart and decide they already know what's wrong with you? This isn't that. You tell me what's actually going on, what you've tried, what's worked, what hasn't, what you're scared of, what you're hoping for, and none of it gets lost. None of it gets reduced to a number.
Together, we work out what your actual situation needs. Not generic advice pulled from a website written for someone else's body. Something built around you, your history, your test results, the specific place you're standing in right now.
By the time you join your first group call, you're not walking in as a stranger hoping to be understood eventually. You're already known. Someone in that room already has the full picture of who you are and what you're carrying, and that changes everything about how it feels to show up.
The Fat Positive Fertility Program, Whenever You Want It
Everything I know about navigating fertility in a fat body, without the shame, without the diet talk, without pretending the system isn't broken, is sitting there waiting for you. Videos, frameworks, the exact scripts I'd hand a client mid-appointment, all of it, ready whenever you are.
Some weeks you'll want to sit with it properly. Work through a module with a cup of tea, take notes, come back to the group with questions. Other weeks you won't have the energy to open your laptop, let alone learn something new, and that's fine too. It's not homework. Nobody's checking if you've done it.
You get to go at your own pace, in your own order, based on what you actually need right now rather than what week ten says you should be thinking about. Waiting for a test result and need to understand what it might mean? There's something there for that. Bracing for a conversation with a new consultant? There's a script for that too. Struggling with the voice in your head that still wonders if the doctors might be right? That's in there as well.
This isn't the main event. The calls and the community are that. But it's there underneath everything, so you're never without the actual information you need, on your own terms, whenever you need to reach for it.
A Place to Land Between Calls
The calls are where the real connection happens, every Wednesday, the same room, the same faces. The community space is what sits alongside that. Somewhere quieter.
There's no expectation to post. No pressure to check in, comment on everyone else's updates, or perform being okay, or not okay, for an audience. Some people use it to ask a quick question between calls. Some people share something they're not ready to say out loud yet. Some people barely open it at all, and that's completely fine too.
It's there when you want it.
If You’ve Been Told…
“Losing weight is your best chance at getting pregnant,” or
“Fat bodies aren’t safe for pregnancy,” or even
“No-one will help you get pregnant at your size”
…you’ve been misinformed. The truth is:
💛 Fat folks get pregnant all the time and have done for millennia. It’s not your body that’s stopping you, it’s the systemic barriers and misinformation about fat bodies and fertility.
💛Moving away from weight loss and focusing on nourishing and supporting your body can create the sense of safety needed for getting pregnant in a world that feels inherently unsafe for fat folks.
💛 You deserve fertility support designed specifically for fat folks, one that honours your lived experience and understands the unique challenges you face while navigating fertility care.
Imagine knowing, deep in your bones, that you are enough and worthy of growing your family right now.
Meet Nicola.
Hi, I’m Nicola Salmon (she/her), a fat positive fertility specialist, integrative fertility coach, and author of “Fat and Fertile.”
I’m here to help you navigate getting pregnant in a world that’s obsessed with weight. If you’ve ever felt dismissed, judged, or ignored by the fertility industry, know this: it’s not your fault, and your body is not the problem.
💛 A Bit About Me:
I combine a strong scientific foundation (BSc and MSc in physical sciences and medical engineering) with holistic training (acupuncture, naturopathy, and integrative fertility coaching) to support you on every level. Over the years, I’ve helped thousands of people find their version of health without diets, rebuild trust in their bodies, and believe in their ability to grow their families.
💛 What Drives Me:
I’m also an advocate for change, working to challenge systemic biases in fertility care so that fat folks like you can access the tests, treatments, and support you deserve, without shame or stigma.
💛 Why I Do This Work:
I believe that every person, regardless of size, is worthy, capable, and deserving of respectful and evidence based fertility care. If you’re ready to take control and rewrite the narrative, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
The Problem Isn’t Your Body, It's Reproductive Fatphobia.
There's a name for what you've been living through. Not one doctor's bias, not one bad appointment. A system.
The set of beliefs, policies, and practices that puts weight before fertility in reproductive healthcare. I call it Reproductive Fatphobia, and once you can see it, you can't unsee it.
It's the arbitrary BMI threshold that decides you don't get tests or treatment until you're smaller, as though your body has to change before it's allowed to be cared for.
It's the years of being told, directly or in a hundred small ways, that you need to earn help. So you wait, and wait, believing that only a smaller body makes you worthy of it.
It's the silence that follows. Who do you tell, when the fear of judgement is louder than the need for support? So you carry this alone, rather than risk one more person saying the wrong thing.
And it's the flood of advice that treats weight loss as the answer to everything. Oversimplified, weight-centric, built for a body that isn't yours. Leaving you with plenty of opinions and none of the actual guidance you need.
None of this is about your body failing you.
It's a system that decided your body was the problem, and built itself around that lie.
This is Why Supported Exists
Every part of Reproductive Fatphobia works by making you smaller: smaller in the room, smaller in your own certainty, smaller in what you feel entitled to ask for.
Supported works the opposite way.
The threshold that says you need to shrink before you're cared for. The weekly call is a room where you're already enough, exactly as you are, before anything else happens.
The years of waiting to earn help. The Roadmap session says someone already sees the whole picture of you, and worked with it from day one.
The silence that tells you to carry it alone. The community says you never have to.
The flood of bad advice that says you need to be fixed. The course says here's the actual information, on your terms, whenever you want it.
This isn't a coincidence. It's the design.
